Strangest Words

Still trying to fancast Cowboy Bebop from last night’s Cumberbatch shops.

Okay, so we have Bandicoot Hammerpants* as Spike Spiegel:



That one has already been established.

Then Gerard Butler as Jet Black works almost too well:



I think that Matthew Gray Gubler (who I recently learned of) certainly has the look to play Spike’s nemesis Vicious.



And, of course, there’s Thorgi as Ein the Datadog



The real issue I’m having in the fancast are Faye and Ed.

Faye’s problem is that, while she’s a great character in terms of personality and complexity, her design is pretty much 100% about her boobs.

Looking past the boobs, there’s really not much left. She’s very pale, has no nose or mouth or really facial features to speak of (as is typical in anime). But as is also typical in anime, she has very large eyes and, hey, here’s something kind of atypical - she’s got very defined, very dark, very expressive eyebrows.

So, pale skin, large dark eyes, waggly eyebrows, kinda vampy? I think I’ll go with Kat Dennings on that one. Why not?



Yeah, it’s a bit of a stretch.

Radical Edward is an even bigger stretch. We need a girl who is very young, very thin, capable of pulling off big hair, and the sass to play a completely insane, brilliant computer hacker who often saves the day.

And, man, this one was tough. Is it just me, or do many of the kid actresses kind of blend together? I have trouble telling an Abigail Breslin from a Chloe Moretz from a Dakota Fanning. And they’re all too “normal” looking to be cool enough to play Edward.

Screw it. I’m just gonna go with Willow Smith. I don’t know if she can act, but that child can rock a hair-do. And she’s also got half of Will Smith’s genes and half of Jada Pinkett’s genes. If ever there was a child born to chew scenery…

Yeah. This works for me.

And of course, this is all completely pointless because, hey, who under the age of 30 has even seen Cowboy Bebop at this point? Frankly, if not for the Bolshevik Cummberbund* photomanip, I would never have know that it was still relevant (even if it is one of my all-time faves).

*Just kidding. I love the ‘Batch.

You know, I support all these choices.
